Leadership Resources - August 2025

Happy last Thursday of August!  Tech leaders are always asking for quick/easy resources to help drive performance and increase effectiveness across their orgs.  “The Pursuit” is dedicating the last week of the month to delivering the best resources out there.  This month, I focused on how to bring more fun into your work as a tech leader.

Here's my August 2025 favorite in under 2 minutes…

What tech leaders should be reading this month:  The Power of Fun: How to Feel Alive Again” by Catherine Price.

Why “The Power of Fun: How to Feel Alive Again” is compelling:  You know me –I love a good practical guide … and this is yet another guide to think differently about how you’re showing-up professionally. Price defines fun as the confluence of ease, connection, and flow – all ingredients we have complete control over at work (and topics for the newsletter this month). Her thesis:Life is short, and we must get more intentional about how we spend our time and where we make the biggest impact(s). I learned a ton and am now adding “something fun” to my daily check-list.  Some of my ideas: walking somewhere new with Rosie, being more active on LinkedIn, checking-in on previous clients, watching an episode of “The Office,” getting out of the house for lunch, not responding to emails after hours, etc. Create your own ideas to incorporate into your daily check-list (I know you’re a check-list person too)!

Simple “Go-Do’s” for tech leaders/performers:  Take a few seconds and:

1. Reserve “The Power of Fun: How to Feel AliveAgain” from your local library or download a copy/audio copy today.

2. Check-out all the August topics around fun on the new-and-improved EngagedPursuit resource hub. See what ideas you can incorporate in partnership with your team moving into September(and beyond)!

3. Don’t forget to tell your leadership team you’re focused more on making work for fun – a great way to differentiate yourself(and build a strong culture)!

Value Add – Additional ways to show-up as a leader:  Speaking of fun, the most fun news happened this week – Taylor and Travis are engaged!  Now that folks are headed back to the office after the summer, why not treat your team to an engagement lunch or create some trivia around the big event (who will be invited, when it will happen, where it will be held, best/worst dressed, etc.). We all deserve a little more T & Tin our lives!

Know someone who could use some tech leadership advice each Thursday?  Forward them this email and/or sign them up directly on the new-and-improved Engaged Pursuit website.

Here’s to your Engaged Pursuit!

Tech leaders are expected to have creative solutions to everything at a moment’s notice. But pausing and bringing the team together for an old-fashioned brainstorm can have a huge impact on the result…
