Happy last Thursday of July! Tech leaders are always asking for quick/easy resources to help drive performance and increase effectiveness across their orgs. “The Pursuit” is dedicating the last week of the month to delivering the best resources out there. This month, I’m focusing on trying to make work more human (and fun) – a focus for the newsletter in August. Here's my July 2025 favorite in under 2 minutes…
What tech leaders should be reading this month: “Today WasFun: A Book About Work (Seriously!)” by Bree Groff.
Why “Today Was Fun: A Book About Work(Seriously!)” is compelling: You know me – I love a good practical guide … and this is the ultimate practical guide to adding a little more pep in your step at work. With a MA in Learning and OrganizationalDesign, the author takes a lighthearted and honest approach to the truth about work – we all take it way too seriously! Her thesis: We can still achieve massive impact and exceed expectations … but we should also have fun doing it, too! As one review highlighted, it’s a“masterclass in how to unlock more self-expression, freedom, and humanity in the workplace.” A must-read for any tech professional looking for ways to incorporate a more human-first culture into their organization.
Simple “Go-Do’s” for tech leaders/performers: Take a few seconds and:
· Reserve “Today Was Fun: A Book About Work(Seriously!)” from your local library or download a copy/audio copy today.
· Think about making this part of an organizational book club for August. Ask your team how they want to incorporate the practical ideas into the group.
· Don’t forget to tell your leadership team you’re focused more on making work for fun – a great way to differentiate yourself(and build a strong culture)!
Value Add – Additional ways to show-up as a leader: Speaking of fun, have you checked-out the new “Good Hang” podcast with Amy Poehler? It has absolutely nothing to do with work (Yay!), and a perfect listen for the rest of summer. My favorite episodes so far – Cole Escola and Andy Samberg. Each episode is about an hour long – take a listen on your next morning gratitude walk!
