Happy last Thursday of October! Tech leaders are always asking for quick/easy resources to help drive performance and increase effectiveness across their orgs. “The Pursuit” is dedicating the last week of the month to delivering the best resources out there.
Here's my October 2025 favorite in under 2 minutes…
What tech leaders should think about doing this month: Spend your next team meeting simply focused on “big wins” (and the key learning).
Why spending a decided team meeting just calling-out “big wins” is compelling: I just finished-up an awesome two-day offsite with an Operations ELT supporting a massive retailer. The VP had one request: “We want to spend a ton of time showcasing our wins from the past 12 months.” While that typically is something tech leaders gloss-over, I was impressed with the VP’s dedication to (1) not only talking about the impressive impact, but (2) also highlighting how the result(s) impacted their approach to leadership. Stories were inspiring and the discussions were deep. Which got me thinking – more tech leaders need to spend a ton more time talking deeply about “wins.” How’s that for your next team meeting agenda or idea for your next big icebreaker?
Simple “Go-Do’s” for tech leaders/performers: Take a few seconds and:
1. Think about when you might be able to dedicate a full team meeting to just talking about “wins.” Maybe it’s once a month? Or at minimum once a quarter? See if you can make it a “thing!”
2. Dedicate a monthly/quarterly 1:1 to just talking about “wins” and then find a way to share best-practices with the rest of the org if you can’t find time in your team meetings. Maybe make it a Case Study?
3Create a “wall of wins” for folks to complete if you’re in the office. You’ll be amazed what a large post-it poster and some pens can do to showcase proud moments!
Value Add – Additional ways to show-up as a leader: Looking for some good music to get you (or your team) going in the morning? As a former Spin instructor(bet you didn’t know I taught indoor cycling for 10+ years) I’m always on the hunt for great coffee tunes. Well Demi Lovato really delivered with her latest album “It’s NotThat Deep” released last week. Not only is the title a great reminder for us all, but the music is fantastic too. Download or listen wherever you get your music!
Here’s to your Engaged Pursuit!
