Happy last Thursday of March! Tech leaders are always askingfor quick/easy resources to help drive performance and increase effectiveness across their orgs. “The Pursuit” is dedicating the last week of the month to delivering the best resources out there. This month, I’m focusing on how leaders can maximize mentorship, whether you’re a Mentor, managing a Mentee, or even a Mentee yourself.
Here's my March favorite in under 2 minutes…
What tech leaders should be reading this month: “Radical Respect: How to Work Better Together” by Kim Scott.
Why “Radial Respect” is compelling: From the author of “Radical Candor,” this latest book by Scott highlights specific tactics leaders can implement create impact, trust and support even across highly-matrixed, fast-moving organizations. It’s practical and compelling for Mentor’s who may be looking for specific ideas on how to give actionable (while encouraging) feedback, push-back on assumptions, and help raise-the-bar. For Mentee’s, it’s a guide for building confidence and showing-up authentically no matter the situation.
Simple “Go-Do’s” for tech leaders/performers: Take a few seconds and:
· Reserve “Radical Respect” from your local library or download the book/audio book for an easy pre-bed read.
· Let your team know you’re reading this and incorporate best practices into your team business rhythm and/or Mentee partnerships.
Value Add – Additional ways to show-up as a leader: Looking for some entertainment and a quick history on one of the most famous internet brands? CNN recently launched “Twitter:Breaking the Bird,” a 4-part series on the evolution of this social media platform. While I haven’t finished the series, it’s interesting to re-live the start of this company and see how the culture (and leadership) shifted overtime. A great weekend binge!
