Happy Thursday! Tech leaders are always asking for quick/easy resources to help drive performance and increase effectiveness across their orgs. “The Pursuit” is dedicating the last week of the month to delivering the best resources out there.
Here are my January favorites in under 2 minutes…
What tech leaders should be listening to and reading this month: “Pivot” podcast from NYMag/Vox Media and “Slow Productivity” from Cal Newport.
Why “Pivot” is compelling: Hosted by journalist Kara Swisher and NYU Professor Scott Galloway, Pivot offers a no-nonsense (my favorite!) approach to the biggest stories across tech, business and politics. They cover tech trends, major corporate happenings, economic shifts and dynamics affecting our personal and professional cultures. You’ll feel “in-the-know” after each hour(ish)-long episode.
Why “Slow Productivity” is compelling: Newport is one of my favorite business authors and his latest book highlights why our 365/24/7 tech culture is not sustainable. Instead, Newport writes why leaders (and individual contributors) should implement a slower approach, focused on thought and quality (and away from technology that keeps us always “on”). His recommendations reinforce his “So Good They Can’t Ignore You” philosophy that quality always beats quantity (especially in the long run).
Simple “Go-Do’s” for tech leaders/performers: Take a few seconds and:
- Hit subscribe to the “Pivot” podcast to get content delivered each Tuesday & Friday.
- Reserve “Slow Productivity” from your local library or download the book/audio book for an easy pre-bed read.
Value Add – Additional ways to show-up as a leader: With a focus on resources each month, that got me thinking – how often are you sharing these resources (or insights!) across your organization (up, down, across). Sharing what you’re consuming and/or “ah-ha” moments is a great way to demonstrate thought leadership, strategic thinking, and intent to raise the bar + show team devotion. Even think about starting a “Resource Wall” where folks can share what they love (and why)!
Know someone who’s looking for quick/easy ways to show-up better as a tech leader/performer? Forward them this mail or sign them up at the bottom of the Engaged Pursuit homepage.
