Leadership Resources - February 2025

Happy Thursday!  Tech leaders are always asking for quick/easy resources to help drive performance and increase effectiveness across their orgs.  “The Pursuit” is dedicating the last week of the month to delivering the best resources out there.  This month, I’m focusing on the importance of super-causal communication for leaders.

Here are my February favorites in under 2minutes…

What tech leaders should be listening to and reading this month: “No Stupid Questions” from Freakonomics Radio and “Smart Brevity” from the founders of Axios Media.

Why “No Stupid Questions” is compelling:  Hosted by (one of my favorite!) author Angela Duckworth (“Grit”) and tech/sports executive Mike Maughan, this podcast asks(and discusses) some of the most thought-provoking questions out there. From“How to handle criticism” to “Why do we make excuses?”, all tech professionals will learn an easier, more casual approach to handling challenges we all face every day. And with most episodes under 40 minutes, it’s a perfect “morning walk” listen!

Why “Smart Brevity” is compelling:  This is one of my all-time favorites.  Geared specifically toward written communication, the authors give practical advice (and examples!) on how to getyour written point across in a more compelling, actionable way. Especially for tech professionals who are looking to master the “Executive Summary,” this is a must read! It’s short, sweet, and something to review several times a year!

Simple “Go-Do’s” for tech leaders/performers:  Take a few seconds and:

·     Hit subscribe to the “No Stupid Questions”podcast to get content delivered every Saturday.

·     Reserve “Smart Brevity” from your local libraryor download the book/audio book for an easy pre-bed read.

Value Add – Additional ways to show-up as a leader:  March is right around the(weekend) corner and now is a great time for some digital spring cleaning!  Spend an hour this weekend cleaning up your inbox, reviewing priorities (and downtime) in your calendar, and getting your Q1 business results down on paper.  Not only will you start the new month off with a fresher mindset, but you’ll also set yourself up for longer-term performance success by getting your impact down on paper!
